The Beauty of … Nature @josieriviera, #mgtab

I love this time of year. The earth is emerging warm and bright after winter. Only a couple weeks ago, the trees in my yard were brown and leafless. Now there’s a wide variety of green shades, and far too many to count.

The breeze is warm and the days are longer. The sweet smell of fresh-cut grass fills the air.

Also, many familiar creatures have returned to frequent my yard. Just this week I have seen dozens of different birds at their feeders or lining the deck rails waiting for their turn.

Bumblebees and butterflies are gracing us with their presence too.

I love to explore nature and enjoy seeing wildlife in their natural habitats.

The Beauty of … Hope @josieriviera, #mgtab

Spring is a time for renewal, a time for hope. I am sure I am not alone in having never expected this pandemic to go on for such a long time, or to face so many of the other ‘unprecedented’ events that we faced in 2020.

In all of this though, I see hope.

Hope that this vaccine will provide us a level of safety from COVID-19.

Hope that we will seek to understand our fellow man on a deeper level.

Hope that the world will explore solutions to these unbelievable natural disasters.

Hope that we can listen and try to understand our fellow humans.

Hope that we can be compassionate to those who may not be as fortunate as we are.

Hope that we can bring the best of ourselves to face the worst of what has happened. Together we can bring hope to brighten our world.

What are your hopes? Please leave your comments below.

Here’s to us and our brighter future!

The Beauty of … Choosing Love @josieriviera, #mgtab

When February comes along, I focus on Valentines’ Day and storylines that I might spin into one of my books. I settle in with a snuggly blanket, a good book, and a cup of steamy hot chocolate with whipped cream.

When I thought about these potential storylines, my mind turns to the many kinds of love. Romantic love for our spouse. Or the heart filling with love fo your children and grandchildren. The love of those precious pets who bring us joy. Or even the love of travel or your favorite restaurant. The list is long of things we love.

We can fall in love with someone we might not first choose, and your love may grow if you give it a chance. Think of the stories of people who were best friends, or the annoying guy who hounded someone for a date. Sometimes, the heart knows what it wants.

When you bring a pet home, they quickly become part of your family, and in my case with my adorable shih tzu, as in many cases, pets become your pride and joy.

This month, take time to appreciate everyone you love.

The Beauty of … Fresh Starts @josieriviera, #mgtab

January was named for the Roman God Janus, who was depicted as a God with two faces. One faced into the future and one looked to the past, essentially closing the door on one year and opening another to the next, Janus ushers in January, and I welcome the month for fresh starts and new beginnings.

For many, we also make resolutions. These can be anything we chose, though frequently resolutions revolve around becoming healthier, saving money, increasing our self-care, or learning a new skill.

Oftentimes, we don’t stick to these resolutions, primarily because of how we approach them. We become excited and expect immediate results, rushing toward the finish line. It might serve us better if we take it slower with smaller steps. Think of your journey more as you being the tortoise rather than the hare.

Experts suggest that we are more likely to succeed if we know our “why,” making a plan of how to reach our goals, and patiently taking action to achieve the outcomes we look for.

Wishing you success on your resolutions, (mine is going on a diet to lose the Covid weight), and to a bright, happy, and healthy 2021.
