โ˜˜๏ธ Something special for Saint Patrick’s Day! โ˜˜๏ธ

Saint Patrickโ€™s Day is by far the most famous Irish holiday, and it has come to be celebrated all over the world. Saint Patrick was a 5th-century Romano-British Christian missionary whose name marks the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. Today, he is the foremost patron saint of Ireland. On March 17 many people across the globe celebrate Saint Patrickโ€™s Day with parades and festivals, Irish traditional music sessions, and the wearing of green attire or shamrocks. At the end of the celebrations, a shamrock is put into the bottom of a cup, which is then filled with whiskey, beer, or cider. It is then drunk as a toast to Saint Patrick, Ireland, or those present. The shamrock would either be swallowed with the drink or taken out and tossed over the shoulder for good luck.

As fun as this sounds, no wonder so much of the world celebrates Saint Patrickโ€™s Day!

Iโ€™ve become fascinated by Irish culture through several Nora Roberts books, so much so that Iโ€™ve decided to create my own series that takes place in Dublin. The Irish Garda Squad is a series of detective mysteries/police procedural books with a touch of romance. Each book features exciting new characters and follows the journeys of the Irish Police detectives, the complicated cases they solve, and the challenges these cops face in their personal lives.

All the stories can be read as stand-alone novels, in any order.

The first two books, Dare Game and Killer Score, have both received Crowned Heart Reviews of Excellence from Indโ€™Tale Magazine, a distinction that is not given lightly. Iโ€™m particularly proud to have gotten two such reviews for two books in a row, and I hope the third Garda book will live up to the standards.

To be honest, I planned to release Silent Strike, the next Garda book, today on March 17, but I weaved such a twisted plot I got tangled in it myself. ๐Ÿ˜‚ After many ups and down, Iโ€™m finally working on the last chapters, and with a bit of luck from Saint Patrick himself, I will be releasing the book in April. If youโ€™d like to be notified when itโ€™s published, make sure you follow me on Amazon and BookBub, or subscribe to my Newsletter.

If you havenโ€™t checked out the published books yet, you can find them on Amazon and read them for free in Kindle Unlimited.

I hope you have a wonderful day, whether you celebrate Saint Patrickโ€™s Day or not. We could all use a bit of luck right now. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Stay safe and read books!

Hugs,

New Release News- The Player by Jacquie Biggar #RomCom #SportsRomance @jacqbiggar @mgtab

I have a new release and itโ€™s a Rom-com!

When I started writing the second book in the Men of WarHawks series I had in mind a suspense novel with a female antagonist because Iโ€™d read somewhere that something like one in ten women are criminals. Enter Olivia Brandt- psycho stalker.

Excerpt from Villainโ€™s POV

Unable to help herself, Olivia lifted the spyglasses just as Roy got out of the car and went around to open the door for the chunky woman who climbed out and stared up at the rather impressive log cabin in front of them. What did he even see in her? She had no style senseโ€”seriously, bubble coats when youโ€™re plump is like adding wrapping paper to a watermelon, there is no hiding those curvesโ€”and what was with those glasses and hairstyle? Did she dream of becoming the next Marilyn Monroe?

Roy put a hand to the womanโ€™s elbow and solicitously helped her over the icy gravel drive and up the stairs to the wraparound porch. They paused for a moment while he unlocked the door, then ushered her inside. Oliviaโ€™s blood boiled. She threw the binoculars onto the seatโ€”where they promptly bounced to the floorโ€”and smacked a gloved hand on the steering wheel.

โ€œSheโ€™s going to pay for getting in my way,โ€ she vowed.

โ€œYouโ€™re going to jail, is whatโ€™s going to happen,โ€ Mike retorted. โ€œCโ€™mon, sis, you already have a restraining order against you thanks to this guy, isnโ€™t that enough?โ€

Heat rose up her chest and coated her cheeks. โ€œI told you, itโ€™s a misunderstanding. Once I get a chance to speak to Roy, heโ€™ll clear it up. Thatโ€™s why I need you.โ€

He rolled his eyes. โ€œYouโ€™re making excuses. He doesnโ€™t want anything more to do with you. Heโ€™s moved on, why canโ€™t you?โ€

Rage rose in a tidal wave. Before she knew what she was doing, Olivia reached down, grabbed the binoculars, and rammed them into her brotherโ€™s face.

โ€œOw, you bitch,โ€ he yelled, putting both hands up to protect his bleeding nose. โ€œWhat the hell was that for?โ€

The anger ebbed, the monster in her head silent for now. She started the truck and backed down the drive until they were out of sight of the house. A couple of maneuvers later, the four-by-four was turned around. Olivia glanced at Mike and frowned. She threw a roll of paper towel from under the seat in his direction. โ€œClean yourself up, we have a date with a rental agency.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re fricking crazy,โ€ he mumbled.

She laughed, exhilarated now that the time was near. Soon we will be together, darling. And no one was going to stand in her way.

As you can see, Olivia has a few issues. But, as well as her character came together, I couldnโ€™t tame my protagonists into having the proper respect and solemn attitudes given the seriousness of the situation.

Roy Donaldson is an attitude-ridden hockey player, frustrated with his general managerโ€™s request demand to take time away from the game to get his personal life in order, and Patience Kennedy is the unfortunate PA hired to help him. Roy figures he can boss the PA into leaving so he can get back on the ice, but Patience isnโ€™t the pushover he expects.

Short Excerpt between Roy and Patience

Roy stripped down in the empty locker room and stepped into the shower, sighing as the warm water massaged his back. Heโ€™d paid a hefty price to get the arena to himself, but it was worth the fee to escape the merciless eyes of the press. If he wasnโ€™t under contractโ€ฆ hell, who was he kidding? His career was all he had left, he wasnโ€™t going anywhere. His cell phone jingled, wrecking the quiet. He tipped his head back, letting the water roll off his face. Olivia. Again. He had nothing to say to her. Sheโ€™d made a fool out of him in front of his entire teamโ€”unforgivable.

He rubbed his face and blinked unseeingly at the tiled wall. Two months. He and Olivia had been happy togetherโ€”well, content. God. If he hadnโ€™t come home early that day and found her ensconced in his bedโ€ฆ

Theyโ€™d agreed to take things slow, enjoy the natural growth of their relationship. Instead, sheโ€™d stolen his keys, inserting herself into every part of his life. Calling his mother, arranging a dinner with his teammates, adding her nameโ€”in a relationshipโ€”to his Facebook profile. He pounded the wall, then bowed his head, failure ringing in his ears.

He rinsed off and left the shower stall, hands squeezing the water from his over-long hairโ€”he needed a cut. A startled screech stopped him in his tracks. A curvy brunette sat half-turned on the bench. Sheโ€™d covered her eyes and held out his towel, reminding him of a pinup from the fifties with her flouncy dress, short sweater and colorful knotted headscarf.

โ€œWho the hell are you?โ€ he snarled, making a grab for the towel to cover his privatesโ€”though it was probably too late for modesty. So much for having this place to himself.

โ€œUmm, Pโ€ฆ Patience Kennedy.โ€ She peeked at him from an oversized pair of mint green glasses that made her brown eyes look huge.

Great, they were sending ingรฉnues for reporters now. Didnโ€™t matter, he wasnโ€™t buying into it. โ€œWell, Patience Kennedy, this is the menโ€™s locker room. You arenโ€™t supposed to be in here. Tell whatever rag youโ€™re working for the whole sex kitten thing is wasted on me.โ€ There, that should send her running inโ€ฆ

One.

Two.

The young woman erupted off her seat in the most interesting flurry of bounces and wriggles. Hands on hips, she glared at him in all her bifocaled glory. โ€œThat is a horrible, sexist thing to say.โ€ Her eyes lowered to his bare chest and the towel tucked haphazardly around his hips. She jerked her gaze up, cheeks flushing a becoming pink. โ€œThis is a misunderstanding. My boss suggested I come down and introduce myself after your practice. I wasnโ€™t expectingโ€ฆโ€ Her hands flapped in front of her like a frightened peacock attempting to take flight.

Unexpectedly, he grinned. โ€œNever see a naked man before, Patience Kennedy?โ€ He double-checked the towel and chuckled when she sealed her eyes shut. โ€œDonโ€™t worry, your virtue is safe with me.โ€ The smile faded. โ€œI learn from my mistakes.โ€ He looked around for his clothes, realized heโ€™d left them in his locker and Kennedy stood in his path.

โ€œI wish I could say this has been fun, butโ€ฆโ€ He waited until she reopened her eyes, then jerked his chin in the direction of the other room.

She tipped her head and a heavy sweep of chestnut hair slipped over her shoulder to cover the plump fullness of her breastโ€”not that he was looking. โ€œSorry?โ€

He saw the moment the lightbulb went on. Her eyes widened and her mouth made an oh that hooked his attention. She had a beauty mark. โ€œMy clothes are behind youโ€”unless you plan on holding me hostage until you get your story?โ€ And why the hell did that not sound like a bad idea?

She jumped out of his way and promptly twisted an ankle on the wet bricks. โ€œOuch,โ€ she cried, leaning over to cradle the injury.

That damn sweater was too small, her breasts were hanging out of the top, jiggling with every pained breath she took. He was such a pervert. He crouched to get a closer look at the injury, tucking the towel between his legs. Yep, sheโ€™d sprained it. Who came into a locker room in three-inch heels anyway?

โ€œYouโ€™d better sit down. You canโ€™t walk on it like that.โ€ He rose and took her elbow, frowning when she jerked away.

โ€œDonโ€™t tell me what I can or canโ€™t do. Itโ€™s fiโ€ฆ fine,โ€ she groaned as she put her weight on the foot in question. Her face paled and she reached behind her for the bench, easing her rump down. โ€œDammit, what else can go wrong?โ€

Shouldnโ€™t be too hard, right?

Early Reviews

Oh this one took a surprising turn and I couldnโ€™t put it down. I wonโ€™t give any spoilers but it is a doozy! It is well written and a nice blend of sports player, strong woman, romance,a touch of humor, twists, family and yes, suspense!

Bookbub reviewer- The Player

I love sports stories (especially hockey ones) and Jacquie gives us Roy who gets sidelined from NHL thanks to his stalker ex so he ends up needing some little help from a PA Patience โ€ฆ so you can imagine the good laughs and antics and aww moments she mixed up for us and to be frank, I think the story would have deserved to be longer! I for sure will keep my eyes open for more by Jacquie!

New Year, Fresh Start, New Resolutions

Have you noticed how hard it is to get used to a new year? At least for me itโ€™s always a challenge for the first couple of months when I have to fill in the date. Thinking back of my childhood, itโ€™s hard to imagine Iโ€™m in 2020. I mean, back then, that was the future! In one of my favorite movies, Back to the Future, Steven Spielberg had imagined a much more evolved 21st century. According to him, by now we should all travel in space cars, have voice-command appliances, and eradicate most illnesses. Wasnโ€™t he an optimist, back in โ€™86 when he made the first movie?

While weโ€™re working on technologies that will eventually make all of these things possible, everything is moving slowly. And although we can definitely survive without flying cars and smart refrigerators, our quality of life depends on our health.

When weโ€™re healthy we are unaware of how important this is. Itโ€™s only when weโ€™re confronted with illnessโ€”or worse, deathโ€”that we start appreciating what truly matters in life. Iโ€™ve had such a terrible revelation right after Christmas, when I learned that a high school mate of mine died of cancer at the age of thirty-three. The news was shocking for all of us who knew him. We all hoped and prayed for a miracle until the last minute, but in vain. I can only shudder when I think of his poor wife and six-year-old-son, who have to deal with so much grief. I was touched by how many people jumped in to help them, morally and financially. Itโ€™s probably not that much of a comfort, but seeing this proof of kindness reassured me thereโ€™s still hope for humanity.

Itโ€™s a bitter irony that I have just finished a book where the hero is a researcher and fights to cure cancer. Although the book is a fictional suspense romance, a lot of the medical facts are true. With medicine advancing fast, I pray this terrible disease will soon be eradicated forever and stop being a constant threat to us and those we love.

Inย International Affairs: LONDON, Dr. Gerard Leon develops not one, but two cures for cancer, with the help of Linda, a beautiful and wealthy Italian artist. If in life weโ€™re not guaranteed a happy ever after, one of the things we can do is look for it in booksโ€ฆ

She has the money; he has the brains. In their quest to cure others, can they also heal each other?

Gerard Leon is a physician and researcher. Linda Coriola is an artist and philanthropist. After losing loved ones to this silent killer, they both fight cancer in their own wayโ€”her with money, him with scientific breakthroughs.
Neither expected to fall in love, but when they do, itโ€™s hard, fast, and mind-blowing.
But they have a common enemy who will stop at nothing to see them fail. Can they give into their feelings, stay focused on their goal, and live to fight another day?

International Affairs: LONDONย is the first book in a new series of suspense romance novels,ย International Romance Collection. I hope you will love these stories as much as I enjoy writing them!
If this isnโ€™t in your New Yearโ€™s resolutions list, remember:ย stay healthy. When it comes to most illnesses your body will give you signs so you can do something before itโ€™s too late–donโ€™t ignore them! It doesnโ€™t matter that youโ€™ll keep your job, or get that promotion, or keep that relationship, or do whatever you want to do if you wonโ€™t live long enough to enjoy them. We can find love, build fortunes, make dreams come true, but the one thing we canโ€™t buy is our health. Itโ€™s the most precious thing we can have. Take care of yourselves above all else.ย โค

Hereโ€™s a photo of me on Christmas Day. I had the best time of my life during the holidays because hubby took two weeks off work, so we spent every minute together. We didn’t go to any parties or fancy events, we just enjoyed our time together cooking, watching TV, staying at home, shopping or just walking the streets and goofing around. ๐Ÿ™‚
