Strong Heroines Make Memorable Characters #mgtab

Well, here I am again, attempting to answer another question about favorites—which I really don’t have an answer for. The reason this is difficult for me is because it’s not specific characters who stand out for me as much as it is their traits, personalities and sense of humor, which is why I enjoy specific authors.

I guess sometime during the past ten years, I’ve switched my mindset over to writer, even when I am reading a story for enjoyment. These days, I don’t have much opportunity to read, but in the past, I would read an entire novel a day, and sometimes more.

5 Favorite Summer Things To Do by Stephanie Queen

Like a lot of us, I find I have more leisure time in the summer. Work slows down, days get longer and energy goes up. Maybe it’s all a mirage, but suddenly there’s more time for the fun stuff in life.

Here are my top 5 fun summer leisure loves:

  1. The Beach. Breathing the salt air. Splashing in the ocean waves. Walking in the warm sand. Any of it. All of it! One of my favorite all time beaches is Gay Head Beach on Martha’s Vineyard (pictured above), a small island off the coast of Massachusetts and top summer vacation mecca. When POTUS vacations there, you know it has to be hot!

Speaking of which, POTUS plans a vacation to Martha’s Vineyard in my latest Beachcomber Investigations novel, Beachcomber Danger. The problem is there’s a credible threat to his life. But my hero and heroine, Dane & Shana will do their part to foil the threat. Of course, nothing is that easy and nothing good happens without a cost. Find out the price Dane has to pay when you read the book…

  1. Summer Theater. Maybe I’m a geek, but I love seeing those small productions done in all the vacation spots well off Broadway—mostly in the mountains. Revivals of long ago favorites like South Pacificor My Fair Lady, or my very favorite The Pajama Game. I’m heading up to the mountains in New Hampshire to see whatever they’re showing!
  2. Shopping. I know, I know. This is a great leisure activity any time of year (think Christmas) but it’s extra special when you can cruise the boutiques and shops in a vacation town, especially one that’s on the water, and duck inside for special sales and AC when the sun gets too hot. My favorite spot is in the Berkshires of Massachusetts, closely followed by Wolfeboro, NH on the shores of Lake Winnepesauki. Or any water front harbor town along the coast of Maine, like York or Kennebunkport.
  3. Ice Cream. I know it’s not an activity. Not strictly speaking, but eating ice cream cones, visiting shops or outdoor stands, especially if they’re along a beach or at a carnival, is classifiably a FUN activity! I enjoy the beach side stands at places like Old Orchard Beach in Maine or Salisbury Beach in Massachusetts among many, many others (closely followed by the stands that sell ‘Beach Pizza’!)
  4. Reading a Beach Book. This is the ultimate leisurely activity in the summer. Laying around with nothing to do but read for hours on end. On the beach or in a hammock or poolside. Or maybe in bed late at night, or before you get up in the morning because you have nowhere else to be. The ultimate definition of leisure activity!

Here is Jade’s story.

A romance author without a romance. A Navy SEAL looking for a little R&R. What could happen in a week on an island getaway?

For author Jade Reed, romance is for the books. When her bestie cooks up a scheme for the perfect match on a tropical island, Jade sees an opportunity for a writing experience. Who needs a man?

Navy SEAL Aiden Lin needs to unwind. His mom wants a daughter-in-law. She sets him up for a one-week vacation with his perfect match. He doesn’t need a wife yet, but maybe he can have some fun and make his mom happy.

Beach Tips and September at the Seashore Sale @DonnaFaz #99cents #mgtab

Beach Tips and September By the Sea SaleSeptember at the Seashore can be a beautiful experience. The water is still warm enough for swimming and surfing. There is an end-of-summer silkiness to the salty breeze. The sunshine is glorious and golden. School is back in session and family vacations are over which means there is plenty of sand to spread out your blanket. Here are a few beach tips to help you breeze through your end of summer visit. And after you’ve read the beach tips, keep reading! You’ll learn about the September at the Seashore Sale!

  • Baby powder is amazing when it comes to removing sand. Just sprinkle some powder on your skin and the sand falls off.
  • Consider cutting out the suit linings of children’s bathing suits so that large accumulations of sand don’t create droopy drawers.
  • Mesh bags are perfect for storing sand toys. The mesh allows airflow which will dry the toys quickly, and sand will fall right through the mesh.
  • Bring along some leave-in hair conditioner and apply it when you get out of the ocean to prevent tangles as your hair dries.
  • Freeze the water in your water bottle. It will serve as an ice pack to keep your lunch cool, and when you need a drink, the water will be nice and cold.
  • Clean out last year’s sunscreen tubes and use them to hide valuables. Simply cut the flat end with scissors, wash, dry, then apply strips of Velcro to the inside and, ta-dah, the perfect hiding place.
  • Bring extra zip-close plastic bags to protect cell phones, e-readers, and other electronics. When you’re ready to go home, use the plastic bags to carry those seashell collections home.
  • Apply vinegar to sun-kissed skin (be careful not to get it into your eyes). Wait 15 minutes and then shower in cool water. The vinegar will balance the skin’s pH level and take out most of the sting. It also reduces blisters that lead to peeling. This beach tip really works!
  • Don’t bring expensive sunglasses to the beach! One big wave hits, and the glasses are gone forever. Instead, purchase cheap glasses that offer protection but won’t leave you sad if they’re lost at sea.

Now that you have the beach tips you need, go out there and have some fun!
