Baby Boomers Downsize w/Tiny Homes #mgtab #Blog #EmptyNest #Style

Downsizing in 2015

Many of the so- called baby boomer era are facing empty nesters’ syndrome. That is to say, their once boisterous, happy homes are now quiet wastelands of space.

According to CIGNA HealthCare, family life cycles have five stages:

  1. Independence from your parents
  2. Settling down with a partner
  3. Becoming a parent to your own children
  4. Launching your adult children into their own independence stage
  5. Your retirement years

There has been an upsurge in the housing market, which in turn, has led to many couples who are coming into their retirement years, selling their homes and either moving into condos, tiny homes, like the one pictured above, or RV’s.

We chose the latter route. With our daughter grown and hundreds of miles away, we found ourselves alone and lonely in a five bedroom bi-level that was much too big. My mother had a suite downstairs, but most of the time it felt like we were simply keeping the dust bunnies company.

There are RV resorts all over Canada and the United States that cater to year round travelers. Some are very fancy with golfing, pools, tennis courts, and fitness rooms:

And others offer the wilderness in all its glory:

Our new home may not be thirteen hundred square feet, but it can take us to places we’ve never seen before.

And maybe even relieve some of that, ‘What are we going to do without our kids?’ feeling we all go through sooner or later.

How about you? What do you do to relieve that empty nester’s syndrome?

My new release, The Sheriff Meets His Match, explores the relationship between a single father and his teenage daughter.

Jack Garrett is satisfied with his uncomplicated life. He has a good job as the sheriff of his hometown, a nice home, and a beautiful teenage daughter. So why is he struggling against his attraction for the disorganized new hire at the department, Laurel Thomas? She threatens everything he’s worked so hard to avoid—like falling in love.

Laurel Thomas has always experienced life from the outside looking in. She likes the warm welcome she’s received in Tidal Falls and wants to make a home in this friendly little town, far away from her egocentric family. But then her uncle arrives and she learns the past has a way of catching up to her.

Can two people with enough emotional baggage to sink a ship find a way to give each other a chance, or is this match doomed to drown?

KINDLE SELECT PROGRAM: FAN OR FOE? #MFRWauthor #MGTAB #Kindle #SummerReading @jacqbiggar

There’s been a lot of talk in recent months about the Kindle Select program and it’s perceived problems for authors.

I’ve entered the three-month term that KDP requires–which basically means you can’t place your ebook for sale with any other vendors during the time you’re in the select program–for each of my novels I’ve published, and I have to say I don’t regret it at all.

Thanks to the KU-Koll and the newly developed KENP (Kindle Edition Normalized Pages Read) my books are finding their way into readers hands, and I’m even getting some fans!

As a new indie author, this means so much in terms of developing confidence in what I’m writing and discoverability for new-to-me-readers. Many rumors abound about Amazon and their so-called goal to take over the world.

So far as I’m concerned Amazon has always been a readers best friend and we, as authors, would be stupid not to realize that fact and embrace it, because they aren’t going anywhere.

I have a Kindle countdown deal running right now on my latest release, Twilight’s Encore. I hope you’ll consider trying this new author out and posting a review to share your experience with the book.

Thank you, and I hope you’re finding some great books this summer,

Jacquie Biggar

Third in the Wounded Hearts series

Ty Garrett loved Katy Fowler from the first moment he saw her. When

circumstances yank the young couple apart, Ty becomes angry and bitter.

Years later Katy returns to Tidal Falls to get married in her family’s

theatre, not expecting to run into Ty Garrett, the boy she’d never

forgotten. And worse than that, he is the man she needs to help

prepare the Twilight theatre for her upcoming wedding.

When a series of sabotages wreak havoc on the theatre and danger threatens

Katy’s life, can Ty save her and win back her love, or is it too late for these star-crossed lovers?

“Ty, I didn’t expect to see you here. That’s twice today. I’d almost think you had it planned.” Her steps faltered when she realized just where he was standing—in front of the condom section. She flapped a hand in front of her face, a futile attempt to calm her racing pulse and pink cheeks.

He eyed her embarrassment for an amused moment before leaning over and deliberately picking up a box of extra large—in his dreams—glow in the dark—really?—contraceptives. “Funny, that’s what I was going to say.” He dropped the box into the half-full basket he carried in one hand. “After all, sugar, I was here first.”

Her gaze helplessly followed the carton of Trojans. They landed on top of three cans of kitten food, various colorful toys, and some litter. Katy reached into the basket and plucked out a toy mouse. “Unless you’re into some kinky activities, Garrett, your cover is blown.” She pointed toward the shelves behind him filled with pet supplies.

He shrugged. “You’re the one who leapt to conclusions.”

She didn’t think he was talking about condoms.

ABB Summer sale pinterest - newsletter-01

I discovered Pinterest approximately three years ago. Since then I’ve made one hundred and six boards, seventeen thousand, one hundred twenty-three pins, and counting. 🙂

Some people call Pinterest a time suck, and it certainly can be, but it’s also full of inspirational quotes, crafts, recipes, fashion, cars, books… you get the picture (pun intended)

Whenever I get stuck on a vision for my books, Pinterest is there to help get me back on track. I can look up any location, occupation, handsome hero, or sexy heroine, and get the creative juices flowing.

I also like Pinterest for finding new-to-me authors. Many writers, me included, use the site to set up storyboards of our #WIP, a visual display of the book. Here’s the board from my latest book, Twilight’s Encore, to give you an idea of what I mean:

Follow Jacquie Biggar’s board Twilight’s Encore-Bk #3 Wounded Hearts series, #Romance Books,# Romantic Suspense book on Pinterest.

You can set up group boards to be shared with friends and family, such as we’ve done with The Authors’ Billboard. You can check out our selection of boards here:

What is your experience with Pinterest? Are you a fan? Never tried it? Find it friendly or confusing? We want to know 🙂
