Losing Weight by Mona Risk

In our culture it’s easy to pack up pounds and indulge into eating calorie-dense food. Our body wasn’t designed to overeat high-fat, processed food. While we sit in front of the computer or TV, our body simply converts all this high calorie food into billion of fat cells.

Over the years, I tried every diet on earth. They all worked. Every time, I wanted to lose weight, I became very determined, very disciplined. And I lost the weight. It was the maintenance period that turned into a disaster. I lost focus and fell back in my old routine. And after a few months, the pounds returned.

A friend of my mother, a beautiful old lady told me once when she saw me desperate with my useless efforts. “Do you know that your face is the first place to lose weight? And then the lines form and the wrinkles deepen. Do you want to be a bit overweight and good-looking, or skinny and…”

Okay, I got the message and I bought the Mayo Clinic book on Healthy Weight.

The Mayo Clinic Weight Pyramid is my guide to health now. It shows me the healthy food to eat and the daily quantity in five steps.

1- Calories: Identify a daily calorie level suitable for me. [1000-1200 for women]

2- Servings: Identify the number of serving I should eat from each food group.

3-Serving size: Become familiar with serving sizes for a wide variety of food.

4- Record keeping: It’s important to record the amount of food –calorie–eaten every day.

This is the only non-diet ‘diet’ that’s working for me and allows me to maintain a stable weight and health. While you lose weight in a healthy way, reward yourself with two heartwarming romance novels, newly released at Amazon.

Prince Philip’s Cinderella: A charming jogger saves her from danger. But he’s a prince… and she comes from nothing. Should she run or risk her heart?

High school sweethearts separated by life…They meet years later, successful but different, each with a heavy baggage.

A Concerned Author by Mona Risk

Do you think I will talk about politics? WRONG

About economy? WRONG

Writing, formatting, publishing, marketing? Wrong, wrong, wrong.

What concerns me is that I spend eight hours a day, sitting in my chair,
albeit a comfortable one, typing on my computer those delightful stories my
readers love.

Dear Readers, I love you so much. For you, I sacrifice my time and my
health. Seriously, as comfortable as my chair is, at the end of the day my back is killing me, although I always extend my feet on a stool under my desk.

Other than the backache, writing has generated a few nasty problems. I don’t know how and why, I woke up one day with big pouches of fat on my belly and hips. I swear I didn’t have them fifteen years ago before I started to write.

Problem number three is my most valuable asset: my eyes. I will spare you a detailed description of the eye problems I developed while sitting at my desk. Years ago people used to stare with a smile of appreciation, “Oh how nice, you have differently colored eyes, a green and a hazel.” Now all I hear is, “Do you wear glasses constantly? Do you see black spots or floaters? Did you have the cataract removed.”–No I didn’t!

Do I need to mention the thirty pounds I added since I started writing? I
have no idea how they perfidiously wormed their way onto my once slim silhouette.

But at least I produced over thirty books and contributed to
dozens of anthologies with new books.

UNFORGETTABLE CHARMERS

NOT READY YET is a a brand new book, not published individually, a delightful romance that will warm your heart and help you believe in the power of love.

High school sweethearts separated by life… They meet years later, successful but different, each with a heavy baggage.

SWEET and SASSY BABY LOVE

Sweet and Sassy Baby Love – Babies and toddlers bring great joy, love, humor, and even conflict into our lives. But first, we need a passionate encounter, a romance that transcends time.

Christmas Babies is my contribution to Sweet and Sassy Baby Love: ER and Grey’s Anatomy in the NICU.

Dedicated to her patients, the serious Dr. Madelyn Ramsay never had time for fun. An unexpected health problem makes her realize that there’s more to life than just work. She longs to surrender to the magic of love. But can she handle the charming and secretive Dr. Nick Preston who carries his own package of disillusions? Can she allow two newborn twins to worm their way into her heart?

Making a Difference by Mona Risk

“Be the change you want to see in the world.” Ghandi

Some people see themselves as ordinary people going about their daily activities without concerns about their surroundings. They are just happy to make ends meet, put enough food on the table, take care of their families with a little extra on the side for entertainment and vacation. They may complain on and off if things go wrong. When asked about what they do for a living, they shrug and mention they do what they have to do to keep the JOB that gives them a paycheck.  Exactly what I did, when I graduated from University, got married and started a family. All I wanted was a job that would help me make money and improve our difficult beginnings.

Driven by ambition, others are dedicated to their careers and devote every moment to accomplish their goals. When asked about what they do for a living, they talk about their CAREER, about their hard work and perseverance to climb the ladder of success in their field.

That’s me again. At the age of thirty-five, a slipped disc in my back forced me to avoid standing on my feet all day. I quit my job in the lab and enrolled in a Ph.D. program. Once I received my diploma, I changed my goals and worked hard to succeed in my new career as lab manager, and later director of the environmental division of my company.

A few special people want to make a difference in their world. They really believe in a cause larger than themselves and they would go out of their way to make a difference for others. When asked about what they do for a living, they enthusiastically elaborate about their calling, their mission in life, their vocation. Their happiness does not come from money, or status, but from having a positive impact on the lives of others.

I have gone through the three phases.  Burned-out by many years of heavy responsibilities, long hours in the office and continuous traveling, I took an early retirement to write novels and help others around me.

How do you analyze your accomplishments? Wealth? Status? Inner satisfaction? Positive impact on the others?

To start your holidays, I have three books in three very different genres to offer you,  a sweet romance, a sexy mythological adventure, and a sassy modern romance, all at bargain prices.
