A Concerned Author by Mona Risk

Do you think I will talk about politics? WRONG

About economy? WRONG

Writing, formatting, publishing, marketing? Wrong, wrong, wrong.

What concerns me is that I spend eight hours a day, sitting in my chair,
albeit a comfortable one, typing on my computer those delightful stories my
readers love.

Dear Readers, I love you so much. For you, I sacrifice my time and my
health. Seriously, as comfortable as my chair is, at the end of the day my back is killing me, although I always extend my feet on a stool under my desk.

Other than the backache, writing has generated a few nasty problems. I don’t know how and why, I woke up one day with big pouches of fat on my belly and hips. I swear I didn’t have them fifteen years ago before I started to write.

Problem number three is my most valuable asset: my eyes. I will spare you a detailed description of the eye problems I developed while sitting at my desk. Years ago people used to stare with a smile of appreciation, “Oh how nice, you have differently colored eyes, a green and a hazel.” Now all I hear is, “Do you wear glasses constantly? Do you see black spots or floaters? Did you have the cataract removed.”–No I didn’t!

Do I need to mention the thirty pounds I added since I started writing? I
have no idea how they perfidiously wormed their way onto my once slim silhouette.

But at least I produced over thirty books and contributed to
dozens of anthologies with new books.

UNFORGETTABLE CHARMERS

NOT READY YET is a a brand new book, not published individually, a delightful romance that will warm your heart and help you believe in the power of love.

High school sweethearts separated by life… They meet years later, successful but different, each with a heavy baggage.

SWEET and SASSY BABY LOVE

Sweet and Sassy Baby Love – Babies and toddlers bring great joy, love, humor, and even conflict into our lives. But first, we need a passionate encounter, a romance that transcends time.

Christmas Babies is my contribution to Sweet and Sassy Baby Love: ER and Grey’s Anatomy in the NICU.

Dedicated to her patients, the serious Dr. Madelyn Ramsay never had time for fun. An unexpected health problem makes her realize that there’s more to life than just work. She longs to surrender to the magic of love. But can she handle the charming and secretive Dr. Nick Preston who carries his own package of disillusions? Can she allow two newborn twins to worm their way into her heart?

Changing Direction by Mona Risk

How do we act when life deals us a difficult blow? When obstacles stop us at every turn?

Often times we remained frozen in a place where moving becomes difficult or seems impossible. We focus on how we cannot do something versus how we can do something different.

Rather than being stuck in place, change direction and do something different.

As authors writing novels we call it a ‘turning point’.

In tennis championship they call it ‘momentum shift’.

I real life, we often make career shifts or life changes.

No one can predict if changes will be good or bad, but rather than being stuck in a hole that can get deeper why not try something else that can get us moving?

In my Women’s Fiction book ON MY OWN that is part of the anthology: INVINCIBLE, Strong and Fearless, the heroine Monica Roland changes directions three times in her life. These are changes requiring a lot of effort, and even support from people willing to give her a chance to move on and improve.

Love, Christmas 2: JINGLE WITH MY PRINCESS by Mona Risk

JINGLE WITH MY PRINCESS, Mona Risk’s contribution to Love, Christmas 2, a very recent USA Today bestseller anthology.

“Have you lost your mind, Amy? Calling your former boyfriend to Rensy Island,” Prince Paul bellowed, his menacing scowl reflecting the gloom of the day.
“Chill out, Paul.” Amy shrugged and picked up a yellow bear from the carpeted floor of the Yellow Lounge Room. “I don’t care that he’s a former boyfriend. I’m seeking Scott’s help for our son.”
Paul followed her to stand next to the portable crib where their toddler lay, playing with his blue blanket. “I’m sure we can find a better doctor in England.”
“Dr. Pratt is an expert in neurosurgery. People come to him from everywhere. He’s the best doctor to perform such a difficult surgery on Eric.” How could she make her husband understand that his outburst didn’t make sense? “For heaven’s sake, Paul, I dumped Scott for you five years ago. Now two malignant tumors threaten our baby’s brain. Would you sacrifice him because of your blind jealousy?”

My readers met the protagonists of JINGLE WITH MY PRiNCESS in the first book of Modern Princes Series, A Bride for Prince Paul. Dr. Scott Pratt is the hero of the p

resent story. Now he’s struglling with a strong conflict:

   Should he go?
He’d never refused to treat a patient, never rejected a desperate mother’s plea.
Would he be able to greet Amy without pulling her into his arms to ply her with kisses? Or more likely to shake her in anger?
Would he be able to face her husband without punching him for stealing his girlfriend?

JINGLE WITH MY PRINCESS: The doc and the princess… He saves lives. Can she save his heart?

In the summer of 2016, my husband and I took a fifteen-day cruise around the British Isles. Our first stop was in St. Peter Port, the capital of Guernsey Island, the largest of the Channels islands, located west of Normandy, France.

The guide explained that the residents of Guernsey speak English and French, don’t pay taxes (or pay very low taxes) and enjoy free medical care for children under seven and seniors over seventy. The island originally belonged to the Duke of Normandy and then alternatively to England and France. Now it is part of the British Commonwealth. The ruler is a governor and the constitution states that in case of problems the island would revert to England.

I loved the setting. My muse immediately replaced the governor with a prince, just like the rulers of Monaco or Luxemburg, both in Europe, and my imagination changed their constitution–the heir to the throne must be married. Guernsey Island became Rensy Island, the setting of the Modern Princes Series.

In the Movie Jingle All The Way, Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a detached parent trying to win back his son’s heart by getting him the perfect toy…which is sold-out throughout the city. When the son finally receives the toy, he gives it to the son of his father’s rival. All what he wants for himself is what he’s just gotten back—his father.

The movie makes fun of the consumerism of the holiday season and shows how ridiculous and crazy people can be when they get too obsessed with getting stuff for Christmas. It demonstrates how important it is to actually keep love and generosity ahead of material things and nasty feelings… As Dr. Scott  Pratt, my hero, will do with the help of Princess Charlene—the sister of Scott’s former rival, Prince Paul.

A “Love, Christmas” novella – Holly Jolly Christmas by Mona Risk #mgtab

The joyful Christmas carol lent its title to my newest novella and contribution to the LOVE, CHRISTMAS Anthology.

treasure-hunt-3

After writing six stories for the Holiday Babies Series, all sweet romance for four of the five Ramsay sisters, their mother Barbara, and stepsister Monica, I realized that I ignored the sister number three, Heather, who was already married in the back-story.

lg-holidaybabies-n-y-tWhile the other Ramsay girls received a solid education and built successful careers as doctors, reporters or architect, Heather is a farmer’s wife and a stay-at-home mom with four boys. By her own choice. Helping her husband build their farm into a prosperous business and raising her four sons was Heather’s choice. Not an easy choice at the beginning.

Like her sisters, Heather had her share of problems and her romance with Jeff, her high-school sweetheart, was complicated by a pregnancy at the age of eighteen when she had to start college and her father is struggling with cancer and wished he could have one last Holly Jolly Christmas.

I couldn’t let Heather’s story continue to linger in the background of my six novels when it was nagging me to come to the front row. So it popped out in HOLLY JOLLY CHRISTMAS with more conflict, more drama, and a bittersweet  ending.

My novels are sweet contemporary stories encompassing problems that could happen to you, or your daughters or nieces—problems that could devastate a young woman, problems that require a generous heart, a solid head, and family support to be solved. In the Holiday Babies Series ‘no man is an island’ and ‘it takes a village’ and true love to reach a Happily Ever After.
