Christmas Romance and Holiday Luv

The Christmas season is a time when calories don’t count and corny is in and wearing bright reds and greens that make you look awful is fun. Of course, it is also a great time to cozy in and read some Christmas romance and soak up the holiday cheer with characters who fall in love under the mistletoe.

Christmas Cookies and Holiday Luv

Christmas is a time when calories don’t count. It is a time for sweet thoughts and deeds and memories—and Christmas cookies.

Below is an easy cookie recipe that I started making with my mom and my sisters when I was barely tall enough to steal a few samples off the baking pan cooling on the kitchen counter.

It is also a time for romance, and right now my Kindle is filled with holiday romance. My Holiday Luv Bundle: Four Christmas Romances is now on sale for 99¢ until the end of the month.

Christmas Almond Crescents

Makes about 40 small cookies

  • 1 cup (1/2 lb) butter
  • 1/2 cup confectioner’s sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 Tbsp brandy (optional)
  • 2 tsp cold water
  • 1 cup chopped almonds
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light. Mix in the vanilla, brandy and water. Add in the almonds and flour, Mix well.
  3. Shape into small crescents and bake on ungreased baking sheet for 12-15 minutes. When cookies are still warm, dust with confectioner’s sugar. Store in closed container. Cookies will keep for 5-7 days.

Male Dancers

Many prominent male dancers tell stories about taking their sisters to ballet class and deciding to give dancing a try—and finding that they love it. Ballet, modern dance, hip-hop and many of the performance-oriented forms require athleticism that is every bit as challenging as most sports. An advanced-level dancer can easily measure up, if not surpass, other athletes in terms of strength, endurance, and of course flexibility.

While times keep changing and gender roles are expanding, there are still parents, mostly fathers, who do not like the idea of their sons studying dance. Maybe it’s the music? Or the ability to look graceful while doing something hard? Or the fact that male dancers wear tights in ballet? Having spent a good part of my youth in dance studios and my early adult life as a professional dancer, I’ve seen these struggles repeatedly.

Teaching Male Dancers

As a dance teacher, I often encountered parents who weren’t happy to have sons who danced. I remember one teen who was particularly gifted. I helped him develop his skill and later apply for and receive a scholarship to a prestigious performing arts school. His father called me up and lit into me, demanding, “What have you done to my son?”

Having years of experience dancing with and teaching male dancers, how could I not use this subject in my DANCE ‘N’ LOVE romance series?
