Unexpected Sweet Surprises

September is here. Yes, it means it’s the end of summer, but it also means Fall is on the way! Multi-colored mums, pumpkin everything, and sweater weather. My favorite time of year! I did have a wonderful summer though. This year we were lucky enough to be able to travel across the country to attend our son’s wedding in Utah.

First off, Utah is God’s Country. I’m not sure I’ve seen anywhere more beautiful. Though Wyoming came in a close second. We spent the night in Laramie, Wyoming. What a cute little town. We shopped for cowboy boots and antiques, shared a one-pounder burger that was amazing, and then for dessert stopped at the cutest little cupcake shop I’ve ever seen.

With the best cupcakes I’ve ever tasted.

People who live anywhere near Laramie Wyoming are very lucky!

I was so inspired, that I fashioned Lucy’s Cupcake Shop in my book Targeting Lucy in the Granite Falls Series after it. While researching frostings, icings, and everything sugary yummy, I came across this cake frosting that is so much better than canned frosting and easy too. Yes, I love my job!

Yummy Buttercream Frosting!

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 2 cups confectioners’ sugar, sifted
  • 1 ½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  1. Cream butter in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment until smooth and fluffy.
  2. Gradually beat in confectioners’ sugar until fully incorporated
  3. Beat in vanilla extract.
  4. Add milk and beat for an additional 3 to 4 minutes.

The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window

New Series from Netflix

What a wild title.
What a great show!

Kristen Bell stars in the new Netflix show The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window. I started watching it because I love Kristen Bell. But to be honest, I was reluctant to invest the time where there are so many great shows out right now. I said to myself, “another movie with this same storyline again? So soon? How many times can we see this same movie?”

I watched another Netflix movie last year about an isolated woman with some kind of phobia/trauma who sits in her window all day and witnesses a murder. That movie, starring Amy Adams was also great, but it was a full-blown thriller.

This is not. It’s a parody. It pokes fun at the genre by including elements from movies like “Rear Window, The Woman in the Window, The Girl on the Train. But, this series is not a thriller. It’s a parody. It’s over-the-top hysterical. You will stare at the screen in shock and think, is she dreaming? She must be dreaming!

After binge-watching all the episodes in two nights, what I really need to know is, can an entire bottle of wine fit in one large wine glass?

If you want a fun whodunnit then check this show out. My only complaint is that there are only eight episodes and they’re only 30 minutes long. Way too fast to even get through my huge glass of wine!

Enjoy friends!

Dream a little dream…

Dreams: Sometimes illuminating, something disturbing, and even though we don’t always remember them, experts say we dream three to six times a night and each dream lasts between 5 to 20 minutes.

Then why does it seem like they go on the whole night?

Do they represent our hidden desires? Help us process memories and things that happened during the day?

Researchers have speculated that dreaming serves the following functions:

  • memory reprocessing, in which the brain consolidates learning and memory tasks
  • preparing for possible future threats
  • a unique state of consciousness that incorporates the present, processed of the past, and prepares for the future
  • a psychological space where overwhelming, contradictory, or highly complex notions can be brought together by the dreaming ego, notions that would be unsettling while awake, serving the need for psychological balance and equilibrium

We still don’t know a lot about our dreams but new research techniques may help improve our understanding of dreams. (The information above was found here – https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/284378)

In my Romantic Thriller Shiver Devra dreams of death. Not just ordinary dreams. She’s psychically linked to a killer, seeing through his eyes in real time. Watching him kill women who look a lot like her. She knows details of the crimes no one else does, but not enough to stop him from killing.

Or from coming after her next. Because now he knows she watching… And he knows where she is.

Deadly dreams draw two hearts together-and into the sites of a serial killer. Only by facing their fears will both survive.

Death follows Devra Morgan wherever she goes. Some call her dreams a gift; she calls them a curse. Every time the killer finds her, she runs again. This time he leads the police to her doorstep, forcing her to stop running and play his deadly game.

New Orleans Detective, Riley MacIntyre, is hot on the trail of his sister-in-law’s killer–which leads him straight to Miss Devra Morgan. She knows more than she is saying. He doesn’t believe she is the killer.

But is she working with him, or is she his next target?

A+ Content

Wow! I’m so excited about A+ Content. This is something new that self-published authors can now add to their Amazon pages. If you’re a reader, isn’t it fascinating all the extra little skills we writers add to our toolbox.

What is A+ Content you ask? It’s all kinds of extra information you can add to your Amazon page to enhance your books. I’ve just started digging into this, and what it can mean for me as an author and for my readers. For my first project, I created this image:

Pretty cool! How did I do this you ask? I used Book Brush to create the image, but you can use Canva, Photoshop, or any other image creator. If you use BookBrush.com (the easiest way) after you log in, click Custom Creator. Then click the Amazon button on the left-hand side. That will bring up the stacked standard Amazon image template. Then add your background, your image, and your text.

The image can then be loaded onto Amazon’s A+ content site which you can find on your KDP dashboard. Go to the book you are interested in adding your A+ content to, then click Promote and Advertise and scroll to the bottom to enter the A+ module. I selected the standard image with dark text, uploaded my images one by one, and voila!

There is so much more that can be done using A+ Content. This is just the beginning of my learning curve, and I must say, I’m excited to get started and learn more!
