This quote from Dante Alighieri is about eight centuries old, but the power of love has been around since the Universe began. Love is the greatest motivation of all, the reason why we make decisions and the reason why we live.
Who doesn’t dream of living happily ever after with the love of their life? From that first time you hold hands, from the shiver of that first kiss, a person in love will inevitably want to grow old with their lover.
Sometimes that happens, and sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes love isn’t strong enough, or long-lasting, or even real. Couples break up all the time. Sometimes tragedy strikes and our loved ones are taken away from us. But what keeps us all moving forward is the hope that one day we will find love again, and get our happily ever after at last.
I was lucky and blessed enough to find mine. For seventeen years I’ve been married to my best friend and the best man I know. Our love story was far from a fairytale, it was tumultuous and full of adversities—much like my novels. I guess it’s no wonder I love writing and reading romance. My stories are far from typical, and my characters need to work to be together. But inevitably, they will get their happily ever after. Because no matter what happens in real life, we deserve happy endings in our fiction stories. And chocolate. We absolutely deserve chocolate.
