FREE ROMANCE NOVELS-Love ’em or Hate ’em? #MFRWauthor #mgtab @jacqbiggar

FREEBIE BOOKS

It seems everywhere we look these days, free books are available for download. My Kindle is loaded with deals like this. I mean, who’s going to say no to free, right?

As an author I could never see the sense in giving away my hard work without a forseeable benefit to me. I slaved over those words, did countless months of revision and editing, bought the best cover I could, paid for numerous promotional ads, and now they want me to give it away?

Hell No!

That was before I learned the error of my ways by reading a few of these ‘freebies‘ and finding some really good writers I might never of tried any other way. I’ve heard there’s something like 300,000 books published every week. It’s no wonder so many authors fade into the woodwork.

We need ways of getting our material into potential readers hands, and if Free is the way to accomplish it, then that’s what we have to do. I’ve learned that the benefit outweighs the negative by bringing new people to my books, who hopefully enjoy the stories enough they will keep my name in mind for their next buy.

How do you feel about Free books> Love ’em or hate ’em?

  1. I totally agreed with your comments, Jacquie. It’s an unfortunate fact that there’s just too much competition out there today and an author’s gotta do whatever it takes.
Thanks so much for adding the giveaway 🙂

  2. Free books are great and yeah, I’ve found some authors I really like that way, so thanks to all the authors out there who offer these. And I’ll go on to pay for next books so good for them!

  3. Great question! I’ll be checking back to see what others (especially readers) say. I’m with you–I started out hating the concept, and expecting the free books to be terrible. And they’re quite often NOT. I’ve enjoyed finding new authors I wouldn’t have tried otherwise. The other fascinating part is the variations available on the topic–permanently free, for short time, just a special one-time deal… Different authors seem to have different success with different tactics.

    • Great point Rowan. I’m not sure (previously I would have said I’ll never :)) I’d want to place a book as perma-free, though we do have an anthology of first chapters #free through The Authors’ Billboard, Book Bites 1 & 2  http://amzn.to/1PrmEbi

They seem to be helping with some new reader exposure, so sometimes it DOES pay to do this.
I had great success with placing The Rebel’s Redemption on Free for the past three days. There were over eight thousand downloads, which I hope translates into some new fans for my work and hopefully the all important reviews. But better than that, my other two books had a great increase in sales also, and are still riding the wave. After this experience I can see where free can be a good thing 🙂
      Thanks for your comments,
      Jacquie
